Iceland’s Blue Lagoon geothermal spa has temporarily closed again, following the eruption of a volcano near Reykjavik that began on Nov. 20. The volcano has erupted 10 times in three years.
On its website, Blue Lagoon said it has evacuated visitors and suspended operations across its facilities as a precautionary measure. The closure is expected to last at least through Nov. 24, when conditions will be reassessed.
Blue Lagoon said it is contacting all guests impacted by the current closure. Visitors looking to modify or cancel their reservations are encouraged to use the Blue Lagoon’s online booking tool. As of Nov. 21, however, an alert stated that the online booking platform was “experiencing issues” processing cancellations and refunds, with the Blue Lagoon urging guests to “try again tomorrow.”
